Penfolds RWT 2001 - Very dark, deep purple. An initial hit of chocolate on the nose gives way to meaty aromas. Rich but not thick. Coffee, chocolate, raspberry jam. Dry. There's quite a bit of acid in the long finish. Already quite soft so drinking very well now. It doesn't have a lot of complexity at this stage but since it's fairly young, I would expect it to improve some more.
Bott-Geyl Les Elements Gewurztraminer 2005 - Very fragrant rose and lychee. Sweet and rich. Easy to drink. Excellent stuff.
Chateau Camensac 2003 - I thought this was excellent when I tried at at Vinexpo last year, outclassing more prestigious properties like Lynch Bages and the Pichons. Tasting it again a bit over a year later confirms my initial impression. Deep color. Nose of ripe berry and coffee. No classic pencil shavings or cedar though. Sweet ripe fruit initially giving way to dried herbs. Full bodied and dangerously close to being syrupy but not quite there yet. Fairly complex with layers of flavor. Roast coffee notes again make an appearance in the long finish. Not exactly your classic Bordeaux but that's probably because of the vintage heat. Already drinking very well now but I would expect it to get better with a year or two of additional cellaring.
I don't think this got high points from the critics but for me the wine is excellent and at a friendly price.
