Winery leaves Napa for Sonoma

by Hoke » Fri Aug 17, 2007 2:53 pm

Today in the SF Chron Wine page there was an article about Patz & Hall winery leaving Napa to relocate in Sonoma.

Showing uncommon intelligence and a lot of wine savvy, the folks that own P&H explained that since most of their wine, especially most of their really good wine---was from Sonoma anyway, they might as well locate the winery and tasting room there as well.

Looks like those damned Napans are gonna start coming over here to God's Country and spoiling it, like they did their own place.

I heard the Kessler's have been seen in the county lately too. Maybe they are contemplating a move to Wine Country???? :D

Hell, Sonoma will be elevated by the quality of the cassoulet, if nothing else!

It figures...Diana and I look at some property in Napa for a "potential" move and the Kesslers' think about bailing out!! :P

Cheers!!!

Alas, I tend to agree with John. Have we not seen Sonoma wines being "luxury" items lately? And Coppola is now in Sonoma as well. So, I guess we will pay them for entering their property like at the Rubicon in Napa. That sucks!

Viewed from, say, Mendocino County this seems kind of like when rural Californians marvel at San Franciscans abusing Los Angeles. ("I thought they were pretty much the same.")

Maybe I'm just a wee bit cynical, but if the emphasis is on making money from a fabricated, wine-related, touristic romanticism, then all of our "wine countries" will be Napa-sized sooner than later. Temecula and Livermore Valley have been taking the short road there. Sonoma is melting like the polar ice cap under Napa's green house effect, although there are still some who have not succumbed. Lodi has long since taken the road away from winemaking and toward tourism.

Everybody's gotta make a buck to live, but it seems like making bucks has become more important than making wine.

I better go take my meds now ...
And now what?

Wow, you still count Temecula as a wine zone? :)

We're resisting mightily over here in Sonoma. Probably fall in the end, victim to life's circumstances, but it's a good fight.

You need to get out in the sunshine, soak up a little radiant Vitamin C, dude. Have a latte, made from free-trade, shade grown, organic/biodynamic coffee beans with milk from free-range happy cows (what IS that leafy bush they were chewing???). Get your California buzz back.

Actually, I'm spending way too much time sitting on the deck watching the hummingbird feeders. I'm having trouble using my arms and the only books in reach are my collections of Kierkegaard and Nietzsche.
And now what?
