2001 Varozza Petit Sirah. St. Helena, Napa Valley Nice maturing Pet, with blueberry but the dominant red plums I find In many Napa Valley Pets. Some nice fuzzy tannins. Very enjoyable. 3*
1999 Riecine Chianti Classico Riserva. Cork in good condition, but some staining (about 1/3 of the way up). Definitely some funkiness on the nose when opened, so we decanted the wine to allow it to breathe. Dark color, with just a hint of ruby on the rim. Leather and tobacco on the nose, with quite a hit of acidity coming through. This was confirmed in the palette-lots and lots of leather-tobacco, berry fruit (currant?), black cherry. Quite a bit of acidity, too. My friends appeared to enjoy the bottle quite a bit-it was a gift for bicycle technician work.
This was my second bottle. My only complaint was that the first bottle was richer, somehow. This bottle was much leaner and more austere. Still a solid 3.5*, but the QPR becomes questionable at this $35+ price range.
