Help! The foil capsule on my chianti was damaged (disappeared, actually)

Have a bottle of modest Banfi 2001 Chiatni Classico Riserva. Somehow, someway, the foil covering has disappeared/been removed. No sign of cork damage, and it doesn;t appear that the cork's not been pushed out-it's not been stored perfectly, but it's not too bad, either (cool indoor cabinet, air conditioned fairly rigorously)

Is the wine shot? Not a big dollar wine, but still?

Well, the capsule is more decorative/cosmetic/branding than anything, Brian, so it's not necessarily a problem. The only real functional purpose is maybe it protects the cork from dust and dirt---but I doubt your storage place is all that dusty and dirty.

It's likely just fine, based on what you described. Obviously, you don't want to strut it around to high-toned company, but if you're looking for a modest bottle to enjoy.....odds are, it's okay but not spectacular.

:) Probably good with liver and fava beans.
