Cheap Date

by Kyrstyn Kralovec » Fri Aug 10, 2007 4:14 pm

I didn't feel like cooking last night (that happens more frequently than I'd like to admit) so I stuck a Lean Cuisine in the microwave and took the last 1/3 of a bottle of 2005 Duboeuf Beaujolais Villages out of the fridge to warm up.

The Lean Cuisine was butternut squash ravioli w/ vegetables that tasted much fresher than the usual frozen fare, and it ended up being a surprisingly nice match for the wine. The creaminess in the white sauce brought forth a very light creaminess in the wine that I wasn't aware existed, the mellow fruit in the wine co-mingled very nicely with the butternut squash.

Kind of embarrassing to post among all the gourmands on this board, but hell, it ended up being a nice little meal for the equivalent of about $5.

I say, if it tasted good and fulfilled the need of the moment, go for it!

I am quite sure we all have nights when we are just too tired/bored/busy/uninspired or get home too late to really cook and resort to some other solution. (Well, except Jenise of course. 8) )

I know I sure do.

I love butternut squash ravioli but have never tried them with a beaujolais. Thanks for the idea!
