WTN: 2004 Domaine Truchot-Martin Morey St. Denis Vieilles Vignes

by David M. Bueker » Sun Aug 05, 2007 7:28 pm

2004 Domaine Truchot-Martin Morey St. Denis Vieilles Vignes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis (8/5/2007)
Red fruit, earth & a touch of mint. Elegant balance with a bit of earthiness on the finish. Easy to drink and very satisfying. This can age just on balance alone.

I'm quite fond of some of the M-S-D wines and used to find them reasonably priced for red Burgundies. They've probably been hit with price inflation for the 2005 vintage along with other favorites, alas. I'm not familiar with this producer so thank you for the note.

JC,

You are pretty much down to your last chance. the 2004s are still around some places (and good QPR - this wine was $34.99 before discount), and 2005 is Jacky Truchot's last vintage. He sold off the estate.

Oh! I didn't connect Truchard-Martin with Jacky Truchard! I have heard of this producer but haven't sampled his wines. May have to see if Macarthur Beverages carries his wines as I will be in DC at the end of this month.

A quick search indicates that Macarthur's is all out of Truchot. Of course that may not be the case.

thanks for notes. I've only had Truchot's 2000 Clos Sorbes, but that certainly whetted my appetite for more.

Probably just a typo, but Truchard (from CA) is different than Truchot. I've managed to find a few '02-04 Truchot's and I'm looking for some '05s from my usual sources, but they are not easy to find.

Yet another positive note on the '04s, the latest sale from PC sucked me right in.

I am really enjoying a number of 2004 Burgundies. The criticism of them on egobsofhedonisticfruit.com is totally overblown IMO. The leader of that pack, Mr. Beaunehead hasn't posted any real notes in ages. He just jumps in, criticizes what everyone is drinking and then crawls back under his rock.

Not very experienced with Burgundy, but I've enjoyed a couple of 2004 "Bourgogne" level Burgundies lately that I prefer to most New World Pinot Noir.

Yes, Dan, a typo. Meant Truchot and typed Truchard.

I was just lurking over there and as usual found a dig at "Robin Garr`s wine forum". I am not going to repeat the comment, some of those so-called wine experts there make me mad. I have said it before, if registered on that forum I would not last a day!!!
