WTN: 2005 Kaesler Grenache GSM Stonehorse Barossa Valley Australia. 15.5% alcohol. 63% Grenache, 27% Shiraz, and 10% Mourvedre. $10 a glass at Endless Vines.
Deep ruby/purple color, excellent red fruit aromas with spice and earth notes, very good fruit tastes with spice and earth, medium to full mouth feel, light oak, very light tannins, long single note finish dominated by the fruit but with some subtle chocolate notes. Despite the impression of fruit, this isn't bomb-like at all, quite restrained and elegant, despite the lofty alcohol level. I don't see this wine improving with age, but it will provide pleasant drinking for some time. It's probably more a sipping wine than a wine to match with food. No EGA. 3*.
I spent a wonderful half hour with this wine, watching the Yankees and A-Rod's 500th home run. A great way to spend a hot afternoon rest period.
