Not to bash eBob, but I found Mitch Tallan's post about the peasants/knights and the subsequent dragging of the King from his castle to be hilarious. Too bad the moderator there feels the need to stiffle any perceived criticism of the King by closing threads.

Briefly just caught up with the screenplay!!! Bl...y great. Yeah, thought this thread was gonna be pulled sooner or later

Exactly. Low-brow is not a term used to describe an excellent wine.

And if Victor thinks that Parker uses the UC Davis system, or that Parker finds an 87 point wine excellent, then he is mistaken.

How many is many? How much is large amounts?

For myself, I'm not concerned with accumulating large amounts of silver and gold. Long before that happens, I'll have spent it on wine! Or music equipment...

Wow, I blew that reference, Isaac.

Genesis 9.1, was what I meant to post. "Be fruitful and multiply."

Thanks. Bob

The fruitful/multiply stuff comes after the hand under the thigh thing...

Joe, congratulations to you and Amy, Hope you had a great time in Piedmont.

Yes David I agree the wording of his tasting notes is harsh (maybe even uncalled for), but this is one critics take on a “particular day” on “one bottle” of that given wine. The score (IMHO anyway) indicates it’s a damn good wine.

Thanks, Victor. The Piedmont was amazing.

The link doesn't do much for me. It's much the same as college grading. If "C" was actually the grade for average students, the academic world would be a better place. Truth is far from that; anything below an "A" is the same as an "F" in most places (and rightfully so based on the inflated scores of mediocre work).

For "grade inflation" one need only look at the cuthroat corporate world executives want only "A players." Even B players are no longer acceptable.

Victor - in the world of point inflation any 84-87 (maybe even 88 and 89) scores are death at retail.

Wow!
I've just read the post where squires closes the thread and talks of extreme vitriol etc.

I then went back through and saw some good humour (in the peasants tale, though to be slightly critical it lost a little humour with taking it juts an inch too far) and a vast majority supporting ESJ wines and expressing surprise at RMP's comments.

I can't help getting the feeling that the 'peasant tale' posted is just so awfully close to the truth that Squire Squires feels the need to crush any opposition to RMP. The peasants are indeed revolting (or at least that's Squires' opinion  ).... and all this on the big man's own site

Something definitely seems to be brewing over there and I wouldn't be surprised to hear of some 'suspensions of posting rights'.

Thanks, Ian, for pointing me in the direction of that entertaining thread. That peasants' revolt tale is very funny but, I think, definitely OTT when on Mr Parker's own board. Still Squires ought to have kept his temper.

Turning to ESJ, I have never heard of this estate before but all this passionate interest in its defence makes me keen to try the wines. Does anyone know where they can be obtained this side of the Atlantic.

Tim, there are those of us on THIS side of the "pond" who would like to know where to find it. Your best bet would be shippiong if you can get it through customs and all the other hassles. Steve is a very accomadating guy, as well as a great winemaker.

Re: shipment from the USA

Within the EU, shipment of wine from another EU state is no problem apart from exorbitant cross-border freight charges. However I think that private shipment from America would be real hassle. I was even charged a customs handling fee (EUR 15, I think) + VAT at 21% on a $40 computer strategy game coming from America!

Has anyone here any experience importing US wine?

Interesting that Lyle Fass started that thread... His recent banning may have been ostensibly due to an offline pissing match with Squires, but clearly this thread made him Parker Enemy #1 in their eyes... And boy was the pretext to close that thread flimsy...

Hi Jim,

I don't believe that the ESJ thread had all that much to do with Lyle's ultimate demise.

But welcome over here!

OW, where you say that you have not tasted Steve's 06 Bone Jolly, are you saying the Rose or the gamay noir? I would consider it an honor to bring one or three of the rose wines. I haves some noir, but they are the 2004. I would also bring a bottle of that too if you would like to taste it. In fact I have a couple other new world gamay noir that I would love to stack up against Steve's wine and maybe we could do that in the room at AA next August. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks David. Long time lurker.

In any case, regarding ESJ, I haven't had many, but enjoyed the two that I have drank (can't recall the first, but had and enjoyed the 2001 ESJ Peay Syrah about 2 months back). Definitely willing to try more.

Do you find the wines locally? Steve is very good about shipping.
