Since we're on the topic of eiswein, I'd like to know everyone's opinion of one I recently picked up while on a tour of the Rhine. Grabbed a 750ml bottle of 2004 Bopparder Hamm Feuerlay Eiswein - Riesling from Weinparadies Stefan Kollmar. It has a sticker across the neck stating "Riesling Steillage". According to the owner of the shop, this wine won a Gold Medal in 2004 and he was charging accordingly.

I'll wait until I hear replies before I tell y'all what I paid. :) Is it worth it or did I fall for an age-old marketing ploy?

Well I have never heard of the producer (though I do know the vineyard site well - it's a very good one). I've always been dubious of German wine competition prizes, as I've had a number of clunkers that sported a gold medal sticker, but that's just like most wine competitions around the world. Not all the gold medal winners are on the same level.

There were some good 2004 Eisweins though. It's one of the few really good Eiswein vintages in recent years.
