Have you had the Enfield Shake Ridge Tempranillo? I like it. Very much.

What makes that stand out for you, David? I've had a fair amount of foothill Tempranillo and there's not much that has had any sense of a specific grape or place to it.

I love almost all of Pax's Syrahs. (He also makes amazing cider now. Only available in "growlers" though). My favorite has to be Armagh, from the middle of dairy country west of Petaluma.

Turning back to Italian varieties in California: I really enjoyed the distinctly Chenin-esque character of Bonny Doon's WHITE Nero D'Avola. Whodathunk?

Well first off it's just really tasty! I don't know how to define a general terroir signature for Tempranillo in the foothills. What I will say is that there is a Shake Ridge Ranch signature. The site is one that shows through for this wine, as well as Hardy Wallace's D&R Mourvedre. Tempranillo is so closely associated with Spain and the techniques used in Spain that it is probably hard to separate grape from place AND methods.
