BMcKenney - not really sure how to do what you are looking for in the context of an individual thread for values.

€18 or under means practically all the wines which I am buying nowadays. More expensive bottles consumed come out of the stock. (I was going to write "cellar" but I no longer have one and am about to order some wine fridges.) So, apart from those oldsters, do all my posts go into this sticky?

Tim, think we will all look forward to hearing about the wines you are finding in your area.
Any signs of Marcillac, Jura, Cahors? Oh, how is the cider these days :D .

All three of those have been spotted on the shelves at the town centre caviste, Bob, but so far I've only bought the Marcillac, delicious :D . Buying cider is trial and error, because I haven't yet found a guide which would do a preliminary sort for me. So far I've had three, all labelled "brut", one of which was bland, the second too sweet and the third refreshing and fruity; I'll go back for more of the last :D .

Tim - you can post them in the value thread, but you are not obligated to. Heck, nobody is.

Thinking about some of the comments earlier - it might make sense for things that others might be able to find to go to the value thread, and more regional products (i.e. minimal distribution) to be in the general forum.

Anyway, it's an experiment. We'll see how it goes!

Yum. Is the in-house PO keen on cider? Might need to keep an eye on her if the daily sip of Calvados gets out of hand :D .

As David says, it's optional.

I would add that my vision for this sticky - which might not be the same as others' visions - is that it's a repository for "Oh, wow, this is a really great value and I'm backin' up the truck to the wine shop door" posts.

I like the idea of a sticky for value wines and would appreciate a price of $25 since that would include quite a few nice German Rieslings or Spanish wines, etc. that cost over $20 in my neck of the woods.

Okay, I think I hear a consensus ... in fact, even a bit of excitement!

Here's what I think I hear, but your comments are welcome:

1. This will be a lasting topic. It may or may not stay "stuck" all the time, but start out that way, then let it float, but re-stick it if it won't stay on the first page.

2. This will not be mandatory but optional. You can still post your TNs wherever.

3. This will not be intended for any old plonk but as a place to call out wines of exceptional value that we really want to share.

4. We'll establish a cutoff of US25 (and the equivalent in Euros, Pounds Sterling, Oz and NZ dollars and so on).

5. The cutoff will be firm but not inflexible. I wouldn't want to ban an amazing $27 value by rigid enforcement of the rule.

Anything else I'm missing? I don't want to just take this over. It was David's suggestion and I'd just as soon have him write the final version if he's willing.

That looks like a good summary. I will work on a notice that we can launch in April, so that we do not step on this month's focus.

As a starving college student, I'm all in favor of this (especially if it's kept to wines of very noteworthy quality for the price, otherwise it may fill up with junk) :)

Alex - if it's junk then it's just cheap. We are going to focus on actual value. I hope you can find some things that fit your budget.

Turns out it is such a good idea that another forum already copied it last night.
