I enjoyed my stay at the Vintage Plaza also. It might be slightly over your prefered budget but Jenise had some ideas for getting a better rate. Both Vintage Plaza and Hotel Monaco suggested by Hoke are Kimpton Hotels. I have also stayed at nice Kimpton properties in San Francisco and Washington, DC. They are unique in decor and "theme"--not cookie cutter chain hotels.
