An Israeli wine tonight, for a change. Syrah/Viognier from Recanati.

N/V Southern Point, California, Cabernet Sauvigon ($3/10 U.S.). Alcohol level: 12.5%; yeah right! Another Two Buck Chuck from Franzia, but not as good. Went reasonalbly well with seared and roasted tenderloin in rasher, witha half broule, and salad mostly from our defunct garden.

So far: 2001 St. Innocent Pinot Noir, Anden Vineyard, Willamette Valley
Given the reputation of St. Innocent PN as good agers, I'm interested in seeing how this has developed. Still quite youthful in color, just a slightly bricked carmine. Not a lot going on aromatically: some lifted dark fruits. On the palate it is very spicy, with deep black cherry fruit, leather and light funk. Certainly some evolution but also some slightly rough tannins. Interesting but not great.

Last weekend when this thread was started, I was in Burgundy. Last night, I opened a 2007 Mugneret -Gibourg Les Fuesselottes. That was the first winemaker we visited and Marie-Christine suggested drinking 2007s now. This particular bottle was not very expressive, and maybe lesser bottles are more open like the Gevrey-Chambertin I had in a restaurant in Beaune. Shortly after dinner last night, we received a phone call we were waiting for....the birth of our grandchild. Our first grandson! Tonight we will drink the same wine we opened for his big sister's birth, a 1999 Valdicava.

I sampled a Copain Viognier this past weekend, the rep was pouring downtown. Quite delicious!

Bob, I thought Canada had joined the US in waiting until the first weekend in November to go back to standard time. Is that not true?

Correct, I was tuned into UK forum!! They just changed the clocks. Silly me eh.
