How about a region rather than a wine? My nomination would be Alto Adige, about which I know little but plan to visit soon.

Italy South of Rome could be a problem for the geographaically challanged, as well as some not so. If you lay a ruler on the map of Italy, it bisects a couple of regions and just misses a couple of small ones.

Yes, it probably needs a bit more precision. I would take provinces of Campania, Basilicata, Puglia, Calabria and Sicilia, i.e. treating the familiar wines from Abruzzo and the less familiar ones from Lazio and Molise as "northern" wines. But I don't feel very strongly about this line. Indeed making it wider would improve availability but at the cost of some loss of focus. Wine orientated map displays of these regions would be helpful, if we can find them.

Hmm, let's work on this and refine it for - month after Riesling? Thus, November? That gives us hearty reds for the approach of winter.

I'm going to suggest we go with Bubblies, Not Champagne, for this month, since it's easily defined and we can pop the cork today. Fair enough?
