James, the signup page isn't up yet, but Joel is working on it. When it is ready I am sure an announcement will be made. In the mean time to keep watch go to http://mocool.org/

.Knowing how James likes to nitpick, let me point out that the link Bob posted shows a work in progress. Some of the information may be updated when the "official" announcement is released.Until then you may rest assured MoCoolXX is happening!

Isn't this theme a bit limited? Don't the wines from this region express a certain sameness? I don't really see a lot of NW wines in the places I shop. Of course Europe is just as close as Oregon to the Best Coast of America so we don't see Left Coast wines as much as you people in the Middle. Therefore I don't have as much exerience, but I have to admit to a certain wariness based on this theme.

James, all the more reason to come and get educated about Northwest wines. Oregon grows Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Ponzi has some Arneis, etc. as well as Pinot Noir. Washington State has Syrah, Mourvedre, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, Chardonnay, red and white blends. And I don't think I've ever had wine from British Columbia. I did have a nice Riesling from Idaho once. You can bring some off-theme wines for tastings outside the picnic or for an off-theme table at the picnic.

I would agree if I had any discretionary income. I was just hoping for something a little worldlier. Given my current status, the narrow theme is giving me second thoughts. :(

"Northwest" wasn't narrowly defined the way I see it, James. There is a northwest France, northwest Italy, northwest Germany, northwest New York State, etc. Heck, Porto is in northwest Portugal I could envision quite a global mix of "northwest" wines being available.

Sam, you go to the page directed me, then you will find that the theme is VERY specific to the Northwest United States. I would be happier if the theme were as you defined.

James, I seriously doubt that I will go to Mo'Cool this year and I seriously wish I could. As you know there is ALWAYS an off theme table or six. So I don't doubt for a minute that there will be some serious wines on those tables. Seems to me that the more specific the theme is, the more good off theme wines show up. I really wish.........

Hi James,

I just spent two days touring the wineries of the Willamette valley. I bought 4 cases of wine in total. The big surprise to me was that I bought over a case of white wine. One of the best pinot gris I have ever tried, some really nice rieslings, and even some luscious ripe and racy sauvignon blancs. Not to mention syrah, cabernet sauvignon, a delicious port, and, of course, a plethora of pinots. If you think that this theme is limiting, just come to MoCoolXX and I think you will be pleasantly surprised. :o

Brother Tom, do those wines have names? I recall the 2007 Stone Wolf pinot gris as being a very nice pg, and it did wine a double gold in a pretty prestigious affair in California. Say hi to the other brothers for me.

I prefer my PG from Alsace. Now if we were going to compare NW US PG to Alsatian PG and Willamette PN to red Burgundy, I might rethink my position on the matter.

Hi Brother Bob H.,

They do have names and I have posted tasting notes on most of the wines on WLDG in 4 different posts. I did the pinot gris and sauvigon blancs in one post, the rieslings and gewurztraminers in another, and the pinot noirs in 2 separate posts of day 1 and day 2 of our wine tour. The Stone Wolf pinot gris was very tasty and is quite food friendly and was the only pinot gris I bought. I bought 2 different sauvignon blancs and rieslings also. The majority of my other purchases were pinot noirs. See my tasting notes for details.

What a fabulous idea. And then, of course, there is (hopefully) the Tromley table where we can compare his wonderful German Rieslings with those from the NW. I might just bring one old world wine, of comparable rating and price, for each NW Passage wine I bring.

James, maybe it is just that I don't think I will be able to attend that I don't feel the push to know the details. I think it sufficient to know the theme, and to know the weekend that it is going to be. Let it be known that the theme is set in stone AFAIK. any off theme wine is welcome and will be visited at the table. If one wants to bring Burg to compare to Ore pinot, then that is a good thing. If one wants to bring Alsace pg to compare to Ore pg then that is another good thing. If one wants to bring Rhone syrah to compare to Washington syrah...that is great. Hell its just a party! I sure wish I was coming.

James,

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I don't really look much like Che Guevara and open revolution just seems so inconvenient. I have some wines that fit the theme quite nicely, so I plan to fight "the man" by bringing those wines, BUT to also bring some interesting wines that provide a nice counterpoint to the theme, like maybe a Drouhin Pinot and Burg! By doing so I will be able to infiltrate the soft underbelly of the MoCool power structure, and when they least suspect it I will... uh... um... well, probably just enjoy all of the good wine, good food, and good company.

Attica! Attica!... oh, never mind.

James was it your intention to alert the Ann Arborites that you are revolting? If so, they now know to watch the Old North Tower, and they have broken your code. 8)

James,

I say you arrive at MoCool, enjoy a nice glass of Archery Summit pinot noir from Oregon, perhaps with some smoked salmon canapes, and rethink this whole revolution thing. Conformity is grossly underrated.
