I've experienced both accessible bottles of 2004 Palmer presenting all the splendor and complexity of a truly great Bordeaux but also bottles being shut down and mute. The enticing perfume seems to be the hallmark of Palmer even in lesser years like e.g. 1981. I don't know the reason for it. I guess it's the exceptional quality of its terroir.

I'd second this one. Had it some time ago and it needs drinking or else it will become a relic.
