Another guess: maybe it just means "salted wine"; Andrew Dalby mentions this as a flavoring technique in "Food in the Ancient World from A to Z":

"Six kinds of flavoured wines are mentioned in general literary sources: salted wine, to which the flavouring was added before fermentation; ..."

And, of course, the text may not be discussing wine for drinking (if it's discussing wine at all), but salted wine used for other purposes -- that dreadful cooking wine sold in grocery stores, for example, or more interesting types, as discussed in this page from the Cyprus Food and Drink on making smoked meats using wine:

As others have said, a little more context is often helpful, but this has been a fun journey even without context. :)
