I think we can just do land travel, Rogov, in the interests of expense...and the half that leaves and the half that stays would be equally affected (or not) by the brief exposure to air when the bottle was racked into half bottles.

OK - I'm up for this. In two weeks I'm making a round trip drive from Niagara Falls to Knoxville (about 1,500 miles total). I will subject two bottles of my 2009 Riesling (bottled in January) to the test. One bottle will remain home while the other will make the round trip, bouncing around in a case in the back of my pickup truck. Now I'll have to arrange for qualified tasters to gather when I return.

Better to divide a bottle or two otherwise any differences could be put down to bottle variation.
