I hated every minute of Sideways.

Hoke had it right about Sideways it's not about wine. Why would I pay to go to the movies to be completely bored? I can make popcorn and watch television at home if I'm into masochism.

Which is the reason I can't remember the last time I found myself in a movie theater. Seriously, people paid twelve bucks a pop to see Avatar or The Blindside?
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?

The answer is blowin' in the wind.

I thought it was cringingly embarrassingly bad.

I'd read the book shortly before so that didn't help with the films lack of relationship with what happened.

The man & son fighting and the collection to send the lad to Paris France was just so embarassing.

I like Rickman but he is the same age as Spurrier is and the events took place 30+ years ago.

And Paris France looks just like California.

In the light of recent posts, I suppose I should qualify my review of Bottle Shock by admitting that I liked Sideways enough to watch it twice (but not three times).

I saw Bottle Schock on an airplane (i.e., with low expectations) over a year ago and totally hated it (and posted about it at the time).

Ditto David, ditto Howie. I liked it, better than Sideways even. Just a fun movie with the love of wine expressed pretty well.

My favorite part of Sideways was when Miles and Maya were sitting on the porch talking about wine. She said:

Maya: No, I- I like to think about the life of wine.
Miles Raymond: Yeah.
Maya: How it's a living thing. I like to think about what was going on the year the grapes were growing; how the sun was shining; if it rained. I like to think about all the people who tended and picked the grapes. And if it's an old wine, how many of them must be dead by now. I like how wine continues to evolve, like if I opened a bottle of wine today it would taste different than if I'd opened it on any other day, because a bottle of wine is actually alive. And it's constantly evolving and gaining complexity. That is, until it peaks, like your '61. And then it begins its steady, inevitable decline.
Miles Raymond: Hmm.
Maya: And it tastes so f***ing good.

That really made the wine feel alive. She delivered the line with emotion; I felt transported to the vineyards. And then the last line succinctly summarized it!

I though Bottle Shocked was awful.

Agree completely. Sideways may not be only about wine but they sure got a lot about wine into that movie.

I want to respectfully take back what I said about Bottle Shock. My sixties are seeing some erosion of my cognitive functions, including good sense, sometimes. I figured out in my twenties that different people have different opinions; that so many people would like a certain movie, a certain number of people wouldn't, and some would be neutral, usually most. Occasionally movies are total bombs, but then almost nobody would bother to ask anybody else what they thought about them. The fact that I expressed my opinion about Bottle Shock embarrasses me. Hopefully it shocked me back into my normal mode of understanding that there are as many opinions about any issue as there are backsides.
