Not necessarly true. I have only been a moderator for a short while, and I have changed any number of my own posts with no note appearing, even after someone else replied to a thread. I don't truly understand the protocols of the software, so I cannot explain the computer rules.

As for the moderator ability to make changes, the only reason the three of us (Robin, Jenise & me) would do that is if there was blatantly offensive posting or obvious copyright infringement. Our first approach is always to ask the person who wrote the post (either publicly or in a PM) to edit their own information.

We do also have the ability to merge duplicate topics/move a misplaced topic to its intended home to keep things neat and tidy, but even that does not need to be done much at all.

Isn't there also a time limit where for 10 mins no note appears for edits?

test post
test post edited once.(no edit message)
Otto, not a ten minute rule as far as I can tell. Note this post does not reflect an edit message.
Trying this edit after Hoke has posted and I'll bet the edit message will appear.

Bad policy set by owner. Period.

Unless someone like Jenise causes a ruckus, it's likely to remain in place. One sufficiently loud person can change a bad policy.

If Wade himself doesn't (or already hasn't) gotten personally involved, explained (although there is no explanation for bad service), apologized and made good the situation (and the only way he could do that now is to refund the money spent, if necessary out of his own pocket or profit margin, since Jenise isn't there with the bottle)...and then apologized again.

Blame the employee if it makes Wade feel better. Wade's the owner; if this is the way he wants to run his business (poorly), then do the same thing you did before, in reverse. Tell all your friends and acquaintances that they shouldn't shop there anymore, and tell them why. And send a letter to Wade telling him that's what you're doing, and why.

He'll either get the message or he won't.

Maybe there is a time limit. I really do not know. Personally, most of my edits happen almost immediately, when I notice egregious spelling/grammar errors and go back to make corrections.

Jenise, this hardball seems to be the new way in the new economy. I recently had a problem with Zachys, of all places, trying to return a (not-recently purchased) corked wine. Because of one bad bottle, they have lost a customer. You'd think businesses would learn, but they must be using cost-benefit algorithms that are ever popular.

I repeat, there is no time limit. I just posted an edit to a post from 2/28 where my post happened to be the last in the thread. Guess what? No "edit" message appeared.
Perhaps it works differently for them wid mod powers, but for us mere mortals, you only get the edit message if someone else has posted to the thread before you make your edit. That's how it works.

No, not at all. I just reconsidered--thought it looked unneccessarily spiteful, and I didn't mean my post that way.

Winger, we agree. We don't edit posts. Howeer, the software that gives us the ability to delete spam and lockout evildoers however gives us the ability to edit--it's a package. The two situations in which I've use the edit power are when 1) a winery name is misspelled in the title--editing ensures that the note would be found in a search, 2) a regular comes on late at night a bit tipsy and posts a note full of embarrassing typos. I'll fix the typos--consider that a mercy edit. The rest of the time you're all on your own. :)

Jenise,

I can't help but wonder if Mr. Wade is aware that is poor customer service policy is now known coast to coast.

I did tell the guy who called me that I'd already posted about my experience "on the internet". He didn't ask for details. He did ask me to send him an email detailing what was wrong with the wine that he could show the distributor since the bottle I'd left with them was already flat--I said no, I'd already been put through more trouble than a good customer should have to.

Which is why, @ Hoke, I wouldn't bother writing any letters to Mr. Wade. He makes bad policy decisions and hires inept people to execute them. One can only conclude that something else is more important to him than customer service.

I think you should email him the URL for this thread. He may not actually care about his reputation but may amend his methods in future if he sees it may affect his sales.
