Belhurst Castle, its location on the shores of Seneca Lake, its imposing castle exterior and grand interior and slick restuarants impressed me, I can't say the same about the wines. The pourer was vague about their provenance but it seems they are finished wines bought in from other producers and labelled for Belhurst.

What I did greatly like about Belhurst was the good taste shown by their gift shop in stocking copies of my Marilyn Merlot & the Naked Grape Book -- copies which are now signed by the author.

Hmm, the provenance of the Belhurst wines isn't clear to me. At one time they had ambitious plans to make their own wines and hired a young French winemaker. IIRC, she didn't last long. Their website is extremely vague about the whole winery/winemaking aspect, concentrating on all the medals that they have won. The few wines I have tried were all over the place. And some of the reviews of lodging at the White Springs house evoke Fawlty Towers crossed with the Addams Family. Not a place I'm eager to spend my time getting familiar with, until the reputation improves.

Their prices seem to be all over the place too, tho drifting 10-20% higher than local competition. I'm not going to rush right out an buy Red (no grape varieties provided) that is off dry with "noticible oak" for $15.99.
