If Hannu finds the folks around here too focused on status and points then that is a mischaracterization, IMO. There are other boards where that might apply but I always thought of WLDG as pretty down-to-earth and interested in exploring what all kinds of wines have to offer.

But, it is true that this is not the place for wines that are best used in convivial circumstances with no attention to the artistry of the wine. And if Hannu wants to enjoy wine only as lubrication for a party atmosphere, then why even bother coming to a geeky discussion board in the first place?

Perhaps to give you geeks another chance to return to the origins of wine

But wines like Dancing Bull just seem to be of lower quality than your images. I find your photos worthy of much more exalted wines, and also in general we don't discuss a lot of branded/generic/lower end/mass market wine here.

Ok. You are from the U.S. of America, aren't you? Perhaps you have your broad views when it comes to U.S. wines. Welcome to Finland, where it is quite exceptional/exotic to even have your wines, considering e.g. France where your zin is propably spitted on, being it even the finest California gives. Ofcourse there are many U.S. wines here, but some are visually interesting. - Get my point?

I get your point, but not the consistently insulting way you choose to deliver it.

Nobody here is looking down on your style of enjoying wine. In fact, I probably misspoke when saying that there is no discussion of convivial fun-loving non-analytical wines here, because there is plenty. And they do tend to come from smaller producers but there are some brands discussed here as well.

But what makes this place unique is that there is no one way to enjoy wine. It's pretty diverse that way as far as these wine boards go.

You're the one who seems hung up on having the one, true, original way of enjoying wine, and you seem to be telling us that we're doing something wrong. Why would you do that? It's pretty clear that there are all sorts of ways to have fun and enjoy wine.

So if you want to attack the anal points-loving crowd you should probably go to the source instead of mis-directing your ire here.

Seriously speaking, I returned to this board after becoming a 'member' about 10 years ago. I may have now made a mistake. It wasn't this geeky site then. But what is lost is lost.

But, Rahsaan, do not try to put thoughts into my mind. My friends, with whom I enjoy wine and food, and I, we don't lubricate. You have no idea about the conversation around wine and food we have, but points we do not give! Or we do, when we want to have fun on the subject!

Most people here don't give points either, Hannu: which is what Rahsaan is trying to tell you. But perhaps you haven't read anyone else's threads? I note that 100% of your participation here has been only in your own three threads.

You are so right!

No, you are wrong. There are 5 new threads of mine (plus 2 old ones) + plus ofcourse numerous from the time your computer is unable to reach. And I did participate in the CIA thread. (Though those three ugly letters first made me a bit afraid  )

BTW: Do you also know the topics I've read? If so, that is terrifying considering personal safety in the internet.

Hannu,

At the risk of being insulting, you seem to be striving so diligently to be eloquent that you may have forgotten Blaise Pascal's observation to the effect that "continuous eloquence wearies".

Nope. But anyone can click on your name (or anyone else's) and see the total post count and review threads they've participated in.

David,
Considering the cultural difference we have I would like you to give some credit to me for doing a nice thing to a U.S. wine here (even if it is unpalatable to you). It has taken me years to give any notice to U.S. wines since my boycott of them because of Bushes and Iraq.

And what would that be Bob? You occasionally bring up a concern about the community but nothing more than a generality or two. Any suggestions?

No offense taken, Rogov.
I quite agree with Blaise Pascal.
But the comment coming from you with such final eloquence bears a contradiction.
Just commenting to a comment inviting one, you know.
