You pontificate? What ultra right wing fascist was responsible for such a fabrication. On second thought, I would have to admit you're not exacly pithy most of the time either.

Are you the same Jonathan Loesberg who wrote about Pierre Bourdieu and the Sociology of Aesthetics?

The very same. It's my day job.

Cool! Sorry (everyone) to go so off topic, but I'm opening a contemporary art center in Sao Paulo in February that will, among other things, invite local Bourdieu theoreticians to curate exhibitions that might illustrate some of the taste forming mechanisms that he describes. I read your text a long time ago and remember it to be judiciously critical of Bourdieu, and I want to reread it soon. I'm sure that much of the same mechanisms apply to the world of wine as well...

He wouldn't have noticed! He was the proverbial buffoon, too fascinated with himself to notice he was putting his own dining companions to sleep let alone realize that the bursts of laughter just four feet away were on his account.

More like late September, early November. But give him some Rhone red and he's a young man again.

After sampling many uninspiring Chards last time I visited the Okanagan, I think this idea has merit.

Well the pie-knot guy wasn't entirely off in his analysis. At least as a simple overview.

I also tend to be forgiving of pronounciation from people who are not really into wine. There are plenty of names/words out there in the world that I can't pronounce when I first see them! Who among us doesn't suffer from that.

But, once you get more into wine, and especially begin to work in wine, people should be more familiar with the history/pronounciation of their products.
