1. e. Almost every day
2. NOTES: usually at least two bottles at a time and rarely more than eight bottles at a time
3. c. between $20 and $30
4. b. as a collector NOTES: also to share with friends or at an event and some for current consumption (perhaps within a month or two if not that week)
5. d. with a meal
6. a. home NOTES: most frequently at home but also at restaurants and wine bars
7. NOTES: all of the answers apply at different times--I may be seeking German Riesling or California Pinot Noir or red Burgundy or other times I may be after a particular wine I know the store carries (such as Monchhof Urzig Wurzgarten Riesling Kabinett or may ask the store clerk for a suggestion about a Spanish Rioja that's ready for drinking)
8. c. Pinot Noir
9. United States West Coast
France
Why? I like Pinot Noir in Burgundies and in some California and Oregon wines; I also like white Burgundies, Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre, France, Cotes du Rhone red wines, Beaujolais, etc. and I like some Zinfandels from California. (But then I also like Riesling from Germany and less expensive wines from Spain and Italy so I purchase from more than two regions.)
10. I usually prefer acidic and fruity wines--not too oaky or tannic. I don't have the patience to age wines for 20 years in a cellar so I want wines that are approachable now or within four to five years for the most part.
11. Fair. I don't drink much Merlot as a sole variety but prefer it in blends.
12. a mixture--there are very few wines I try to buy every year but I will go for certain categories such as German Riesling or Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
13. none regularly--occasionally gin, vodka or rum
14. relaxation, pleasure, sensual, thought-provoking, tasty
15. True NOTES: I don't rely on professional ratings but it may guide me to try a wine I've never had before.
The same is true with a friend's recommendation or opinions expressed on a wine forum online.
16. False NOTES: There can be a partial correlation, especially in regions that have been producing wine for several centuries such as Bordeaux and Burgundy. However, some inexpensive wines can be of outstanding quality also but aren't as well known, are made in larger quantities so scarcity doesn't elevate the price, etc.
17. True NOTES: I might be better able to do this with the varieties I drink most often--perhaps not with Syrah or a variety I drink less often.
