Bodegas Zabrin Garnacha De Fuego Old Vines (I can generally find @ $7.99)

I find it a very good table wine. My b-i-l, who is much more wine knowledgeable than I, finds it pretty appealing too.

Hi Edie, and welcome to the forum. Good wine is good wine, no mattter the price. I hope you stay around and talk to us, and bring your b-i-l along with you.

I was surprised therefore to learn that it was 50% riesling. He says that he chose this riesling mainly for it's acid component, and a wise choice it was.

Hi Bob,

I have had some Ontario mixes of riesling and other whites, usually with gwerzt, but sometimes PG or chardonnay. Even with the riesling being a large proportion of the cuvee, it's a mixed bag in what you get, sometimes the riesling dominates sometimes not. However, it usually makes for an interesting and drinkable wine. For example, one that I posted on last fall was called Assemblage (Grange of Prince Edward County) and it was mix of chardonnay, pinot gris, riesling and sauvignon blanc. It was very nice wine that had an expressive nose, great balance, fruit , and a medium to long acidic finish. But the flavors were mostly chardonnay and pinot gris like (white peach with overtones of lychees) with the riesling probably mostly adding the acidity as in your mix.

I found you through the 30 second wine advisor e-letter. As I enjoy wine (quite a bit) and am trying to become more intelligent about wines (am learning slowly but surely) I thought this would be a great place to hang out.

Will be emailing Tom the link so he can sign up too.

I just opened a 2006 Angeline Pinot Noir - Russian River Valley. $15.99, 13.6% ABV.
Not going to do a TN, but will say simply that I like it, and may well return for more. :)
