Q: Some thoughts about vine self-fertility

Regarding Appiano, it's more likely that the vines are hemaphroditic. As far as I know, that's true of all cultivated vinifera. But the structure of the flowers could be such that it would be difficult for airborne pollen to get to the pistil--it usually has to be carried there by an insect.
