But that said, a winery I know of whose wines might fit this description would be Boplaas....

That is pretty good Jenise. However game is up as we all have to move on..............>

`03 Cabernet Sauvignon Allesverloren, Swartland SA.

A much smaller and more recent appellation. After 24 hrs, the wine softened up a little and has a tad more earthyness/terroir on the finish. So thought the staff at my local wine store!!

I would have to agree with the others that, as far as I know, South Africa is considered New World, although the oldest of the New World countries.

I missed the "nothing to do with France" comment which is why I thought Chapoutier which fits in nicely with Port style and established early 1800s.

Ok so established as South Africa. I would guess the vintage to be 2003. The winery Boekenhoutskloof?

Well, that's embarrasing. My wrong guess posted just after you gave it away. At least I got the year right.

Definitely a Bodegas Tikalo 2004 "Rubens" Tierra de Castilla Tempranillo. Mark it down.

Oops! Make that a `03 Cabernet Sauvignon Allesverloren, Swartland SA. That was going to be my second guess.

S Africa is not a country many of us are too familiar with. I was not trying to trick anyone in Indiana!!
Have to say I should have waited as wine tasted better the second day!

Bob,

It's really odd that here in the Hoosier state all of our wines taste like corn... but in a good way.

Actually, I just went straight to the guessing without reading any of the clues. That Tempranillo was one of the wines that we drank over the weekend, so it was on my mind. Not too bad for blind guessing in a blind tasting.
