Help! What's the name of this wine?

by Gana Chono » Fri Aug 24, 2012 9:10 am

Hi, I need some help on identifying the name of this wine.
The question is:

"What's the name of this wine relating to a god(*)? This name is always mentioned in the historical time line but not as a name of the wine (**)."
The wine's name is in 2 words, 16 characters (not including the white space)

(*) God here may be a god in any culture, a genie, a supernatural (like Titans, Nymphs.. in Greek mythology)
(**)The question is translated from my language so this sentence may be translated a little bit inaccurate, It means: This name is always mentioned in the historical time line. And it is mentioned as something/some event/some one (I don't know) in the history but it isn't often mentioned as a wine. I think it means they remember this name as something famous in the past but not as a wine.

I don't know what country she talking about is. I don't know in which culture the god is. I don't know what type of this wine is... Sorry the author of this "cruel" question didn't give out any more information.

I've been searching for the answer several months, and I think only wine lovers in this forum can help me. You guys know so much about wine, you're my last hope ┬_┬ Please, give me some name, any name that you may think of.
Thanks for any idea.

P/s: I'm new to the forum, and I don't know whether posting this type of question here is okay or not. I'm sorry if my post makes you guys feel uncomfortable.

Gana Chono wrote:Oh my, the author of the question just gave me 1 more hint (after I told her that I've been searching for the answer for months and I'm also asking for help from some skillful wine lovers for her question ^_____^) (scare her off *giggle*)

I'm thinking about something like cocktail. Is there any cocktail relating to a god?

Gana, welcome to the forum! Of course this is a perfectly good question, and a challenging one, too.

My first guess comes close, but it requires the white space to make 16:

Lachryma Christi

This is an Italian wine, literally "the tears of Christ," with vineyards on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius.

The name "Lachryma Christi" comes from a legend about Satan being thrown down from heaven (see Milton's "Paradise Lost"), and breaking off a bit of heaven as he fell. This piece of beautiful, favored soil landed at the edge of Vesuvius, making the world's most wonderful vineyard. And when Jesus looked down and saw what Satan had done, he wept. Hence the name.

It's only a story, of course, but maybe it's the one you are looking for?

Like Robin, my first thought was Lachryma Christi, but number is off

A stretch to call Charlemagne a god, though there are plenty of myths, but Corton Charlemagne is off by one in other direction.

Fun to ponder, will try again later

Sangiovese means "blood of Jupiter". Maybe it's some wine name that mentions that variety?

@ Robin Garr, Dale Williams, Paul Winalski :
Thank you so much ^_______^ I was very very elated and appreciated when I saw the answers. I tried them right away.
But the author of the question says all the names are wrong, sorry. (┬_┬) And here I think I finally be able to unlock this tough question.
But at least I know some more interesting things about wine and gods from your answers, so thank you so much ^________^
Please keep helping me, I'm still looking for a answer! (Or at least I can collect some more knowledge from you guys and then I'll challenge others *giggles* )
Thank you!

What is the language of the question? That may give some clues.

Does the definition of god include saints, perhaps?

And does the answer (2 words, 16 characters) have to be in English or the language of the question?

And does the answer (2 words, 16 characters) have to be in English or the language of the question?

The question is in Vietnamese, and the author said the answer is not in Vietnamese (so I think the god, the story, or the wine is not from Vietnam)
That means the answer may be in any language. And because this a question about a wine so the wine may from any country but Vietnam.

Does the definition of god include saints?

Saints is someone from the Holy Bible, and we don't define them like "god in this question".
"God" here is not Jesus either, because in my language, Jesus is called in a different way, a special way that only means Jesus.

A "God" here is someone powerful coming from heaven. All characters in the Greek mythology like Eros, Poseidon, Apollo... are called God. The spirit of a river, a jungle... that was sent from heaven are called god. Gods in other cultures like Shiva (India), Aten, Neith, Thoth (Egypt)... or genii (like in the story "Aladdin and the magic lamp")... are this type of "God", too.

This question has been giving me a head ache, and it seems like now I'm giving you head ache too with my unclear explanation, sorry... *sweat* (^_^;)

Sorry Jenise (and Gana), to disappoint, but I don't have any good answers! :(
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

Winston Churchill certainly appears in the historical timeline unrelated to wine, but one hell of a stretch to say God-related despite the Church part (unless you're an extreme Anglophile).

Chateau L'Evangile's name is certainly god-related, but not sure how it fits into historical timeline (well, I guess as inspiration for Crusades, Inquisition, etc)

Don't know when they say "this wine" if they mean a type/appellation or an individual wine. Probably tens of thousands of the former, easily millions of the latter.

It's okay, I don't have any good answers either  So thanks a lot, Otto, for trying ^________^

@Dale Williams: Winston Churchill and Chateau L'Evangile don't fit to the number of requiring characters but I tried them anyway. But they are not the correct answers, sorry.

About this, I don't know either. I also thought about this matter before but the author gave me no more clue.
However, thanks for your help ^________^

Names I've tried (and failed) until now: Lachryma Christi, Corton Charlemagne, Sangiovese Grosso, Winston Churchill, Chateau L'Evangile.

Thank you all for trying.

I really have no idea what the answer might be, but as the question was posed in Vietnamese and Vietnam has a history of French colonialization, might the answer be a less-than-common French varietal or producer?

I was actually one step ahead of you there, as I knew Chinese people often use the English word "wine" to refer to various alcoholic drinks, and guessed it might be the same in Vietnam :)

Unfortunately it still did not help me as I tend to be a bit wine-centric in my interests :(

Yes, I didn't think about cocktail at all, silly me. Is there any other alcoholic drink based from wine? (In my country, we don't refer beer as wine)
Is the mix wine+milk (like Baileys) a kind of cocktail, too? (In my country, we just call them "baileys" and it's kind of a milk that served in every coffee shop *sweat* ^________^")

Thanks Alex.
And I was so hope that it really is "Poseidon Cocktail", it's so perfectly fit. But it's still not a correct name, sorry T__________T

Look for an alcoholic beverage with “Ambrosia” in its name.

Various types of brandy (distilled wine) and grappa (made from grape skins after wine-making). And drinks like Chinzano (wine-based but with added herbs and spices). I might be wrong, but I believe the Chinese idea of "wine" also extends to other spirits and liquers too.

Oh my god, the new job just kept sinking me down, I didn't have time for my private life. Sorry I left the topic dusty ^__________^"
Luckily thing is moving slow down with my job and there's one thing even more lucky happened, I found the answer for the question. A guy had found it and shared it with me, yay XD

The answer is Cocktail Kamikaze

My god, the answer is so near to my knowledge yet I searched in all the strange areas. Everybody knows Kamikaze. It means "God of Wind" in Japanese and most of people know the word Kamikaze as the suicide attacks by Japanese military aviators in Pearl Harbor event. Easy right? But still tough enough to take several months from me and in the end, I'm not the one who found out the answer. ^_______________^"
Yay, I have the answer now, no more wonder, LOL

By the way, thanks for all of your suggestions. I appreciate all of them. ^___________________^

Thanks for getting back to us on this. From my extensive knowledge of the Japanese (gained from 2 minutes googling) kamikaze is rather "wind of god" - not a "god of wind" - but you did originally say othe word "relates to" a god rather than "is" a god. So I suppose that is fair enough. We have all learned something.

But can I learn one more thing? What is meant by ^__________^? I don't think I have seen it before.
