Anybody have one of these?

by Bob Henrick » Wed Feb 15, 2012 11:10 am

Or has anyone even seen one whether in action or not? In my tome I have purchased way too many wine tools to go for this one, but it is something new...at least to me it is.

I have one, but since it has a cameleon-like ability to blend in with any background I can't find it.

Frankly, I've never even been impressed with the original Vac-u-vin. A bunch of comparative tasting, back in the day, suggested that the effect is primarily placebo. Now you can waste even more bucks for a digital model!

THe essential problem with its design is that, even if one could remove all the oxygen from the headspace (a questionable premise), there is no way you'll get enough of a vacuum to degas the dissolved oxygen in the wine, a major problem.

The thing I like best about Vacu-Vin is that by putting the rubber stopper in and pumping, I can lay the bottle down (if I need to) in the fridge, and it doesn't spill. I have had some leak when I just put the cork back in.

Bob, so there's a $15 or so product where your favorite attribute is that it can do the same thing as a $0.75 rubber stopper. But you're considered upgrading to the $40 digital model? :)
Just saying.
