I marked ""other celebration" because I almost enjoyed the champagne table celebrating late August in Ann Arbor. But truth be told, I liked every other table better.

Well we start almost every tasting dinner with very fine bubbly-- it is great with most appetizers and definitely gets everyone in a festive mood. I wouldn't drink it with ribs, but then again I wouldn't drink Petrus with popcorn. BTW Champagne is pretty good with popcorn!

Actually OW, you are not a minority of one. I join with you in not caring a lot for sparkling wine, so we might be a minority of two! I believe that there is a place for them, and post sex might be the best place, but I just don't like them enough to pay their price when for the same or less $$ I can buy wines I like more.
