Calling MoCOOL volunteers.....

by OW Holmes » Fri Jul 28, 2006 8:47 am

If any of the organizers are watching, can I talk you into posting a list of help you need for MoCOOL? This is such a great event, and we are so thankful for it each year, we'd like to make it easy on you to continue it forever.
I'll volunteer to pick up the water again - about 250 bottles - and deliver them around noon on Saturday. I know you will also need help with set up on Sat and tear down on Sun. Count me in on that too.
What else might you need?

I am also available for set up and tear down. I live just down in Toledo and will be staying at my Aunt's house in Ann Arbor, so it would be easy for me to shoot over on Sun and help before my drive back down. Looking forward to it!

I could probably help out with setting up, as long as I don't have to carry BobH and Julia around on my shoulders. :o

Won't BobH have his wheelchair and his Anna Nicole lookalike nurse with him to hold the oxygyn tank?

As for Julia, I assumed she had six half-naked bronzed 22 year old Italian men to help carry her around in her chaise? Or were they Swedes? I never can remember her preference.

The point is they shouldn't be the problem. Now I could imagine that some of the other people....

As in the past couple years I will be available to help out with the setup on Saturday morning, and some with teardown on Sunday. I drive home on Sunday so couldn't stay too late. Maybe a dozen volunteers including an engineer and we can get the tables set up inside and outside the tent. Does anyone know whether Bree will be with us this year? I know Alan Kerr will be kooking!

I will have my wheelchair James, but my nurse looked more like Olive Oyl than any movie star! If she didn't give such a good backrub I would probably fire her!

Hey OW..you beat me to it! OF COURSE, I will be there for set up and clean up! My motto (with all due respect to JFK) Ask not what MOCool can do for you, ask what you can do for MoCool.

I'm there!

Cheers!

Swedes or Italians? I forget your intenational preference? Or are you not that picky?

I figure you are the McCool Queen after all.

Hi O. W.

I will be available to help setup and, like Bob H., some time for clean-up but not too long. Have to get home on Sunday too!

Great, No 1. Are you at the Hawthorn? Any interest in a Sat am event?

Has anyone heard anything about a Friday night event? I know there's nothing formal/official, and I don't mind impromptu hotel-room tastings, but if anybody's interested in gathering a group for a nice dinner at a decent Ann Arbor spot with a wine list, I'd be inclined to go that route.

Yes, we are staying at the Hawthorn again. Yes, we might get something for Saturday AM. Depends on set-up schedule. Maybe late morning?

I am suspecting that the group will need the same help as last year, which was, per last years note from Sally:

Saturday Setup - anytime from noon onwards.
*Sunday morning cleanup* - 10 am (? - time to be confirmed) - till
done. The more the merrier and the quicker this will go : Tables and
chairs folded and stacked, garbage and empties bagged and stacked in
Clay's trailer for removal to the dump; Kitchen returned to pristine
state - lodge floors mopped and bathrooms cleaned - entire venue
returned to the state we found it in.

Bottled water run - someone with a Costco card - we need 8 cases (24
bottles each) small bottled water - deliver to picnic venue by 2.30-
2.45 so we can chill it.

One bunch of helium balloons needed to tie to mailbox of venue - to be
brought during Saturday setup

Assorted grocery/food pickup towards end of week - TBD - details still
to follow

I've got the water covered, so can somebody volunteer for the helium balloons?

Still a little short, particularly on teardown Sun a.m., and someone to get the helium balloons and bring them to the party. Any more volunteers?
Organizers, do you need anything else :?:

I could stick around for a while on Sunday AM. Two years ago, while driving home from Cedar Springs, MI (MOCOOL weekend) I got stuck in traffic in Hamilton, Ont. that lasted to the USA bridge (2 hours). It was everyone driving home from the Yankees games vs the Blue Jays. Note to self - check baseball schedule. :?

Yeah, Howie, that can happen. The last two times I've crossed there at, what, 405?, I drove right up to the booth - not a car ahead of me. So easy. But getting back into Michigan at Port Huron I have had to wait over 2 hours two of the last three times. There were trucks backed up for 7 kilometers into Ontario.

I'm no use on Sunday, with an early flight out of DTW. But I'll have a car and would be happy to pick up balloons. Sign me up and give me the details.

Great - no real details. Just get 4-5 helium balloons and tie them at the entrance to the picnic before the party starts. I think there will be some kind of a sign there, too, to tie the balloons onto. I'll get more info from Sally.

Okay, great, I can do that. It gives me an excuse to show up early. :) And the search string "helium balloons near Ann Arbor" gives me dozens of hits in Google Maps on my Blackberry, so I'm good to go.

And to make it even better, Robin, I should tell you that during setup last year, as we were waiting for the rain to stop, someone had a bottle open in the kitchen that never saw the picnic. Exceptional bottle. Could it happen again??????

We could still use some additional assistance for the take down and clean up of the mess we make. Sunday morning. Any volunteers out there?
