I was pleasantly surprised by the focused lemon and apple notes of the Midbar 2009 Semillon. With time the fruit seems to increasingly come into focus. Although there is plenty of acid around to keep it sharp, interestingly, there is also a honeyed roundness that presents itself towards the finish. Following that I had a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 made by an amateur winemaker with grapes sourced from California's Suisun Valley. It was fascinating to discuss the wine with its maker later in the evening, as well as to see how he evolves from year to year.
