I dug into my cellar and came up with a regular bottling of the Hagafen Cabernet Franc 2009. The freshness of the red fruit wafting out of the glass indicated from the outset that the wine is lively, and the deep ruby color confirmed by sight what the nose sensed. While the initial attack on the palate delivers bright fresh cherry accompanied by a sweet sensation that some would describe as sweet tobacco, the finish introduces hints of chocolate, showing a complexity acquired with age. There is also perhaps some detectable thinning. With smooth tannins, a medium body, and well focused fruit, the wine is a paragon of elegance.
A great week to all,
Pinchas
