Hi Harry,
Although it was during Passover that the Jews of Egypt began their wanderings in the desert, it is pre-Pesach that I feel displaced, eating my meals in the basement while the house is cleaned for Passover. Usually that setting provokes me to using simpler wines, but this week I bucked that impulse opening two rather special bottles. The first was the Midbar Chenin Blanc 2010. While it wasn't always the case, this time the wine has a marked nuttiness to it that is complemented by welcome bitterness. The fruit isn't exuberant and I'm hard pressed to recall the fruit flavors it recalls, though remnants of orange rind are still in my mouth. The second bottle was the Prix Hagafen Cabernet Sauvignon 2003. This aged bottle is smooth and pleasant, with the brightness of the fruit having subsided.
Best Regards,
