New Kosher Wine Releases Available in America & Beyond

Sorry Aaron it was just a typo, all 5 are good including the white one. With that said I wasn't a fan of the 2010 white but 2011 and more so 2012 were fine. Haven't seen/tasted the 2013 yet.

BTW I liked very much the 2011 Alma Bordeaux blend and I'm a very fond of the Rhône blends, looking forward to finally find the GSM on the shelves.

Has anyone tried the 2013 Twin Suns Cab?

Tasted it a few weeks ago and did enjoy it, given some air it showcases very interesting characteristics and fruit flavors. As a mevushal wine I think it's solid but otherwise for the price I'd also rather spend a few more bucks and get the Peraj Petita instead.

Totally agree - the Twin Suns with a LOT of time is really nice, better than the 12 herzog cab (which is VERY nice), and different than the mevu Petita

So the goose bay rose - was nice enough and worth the price for the bottle - MORONIC that they took so long to get it out!
The Legend 2 is nice, but not great for me, more red and less to no real blue - given its majotr change in varietals - I was not overly impressed for the dollars
The Herzog Variations. Pass on 3, 4 is nice, but 5 is the clear winner
Which Almas? The white has never done it for me. Stick with the viognier or the semillon. The two reds are almost always good.

The new Almas. It seems there's a new Rhone blend (GSM), an Aussie blend (Cab-Shiraz), and a new white blend.

Yeah, like I said the white blend is there, stick with the Viognier or Semillon. The GMS is awesome, as is the Bordeaux and syrah blend (though this is third, but a darn good third!)

Nope - but they have never excited me Many times they took good Viognier and poured it into that. My guess, is that the Viognier was not good enough to stand on its own, and not good enough to stand in this either

My note for the wine is below. It may be a legitimate rival to the Katzrin for the best kosher wine out there right now.

Flam, Noble, 2010: As a special treat during my last visit to Flam, I got to taste the 2010 Noble. The Noble is Flam’s new flagship blend and the inaugural (non-kosher) 2008 vintage was released around eight months ago. The wine is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% each of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot. Golan meticulously selected the absolute best grapes for each varietal from among Flam’s best plots. Each of the components spent a year aging separately in new oak before being blended together and then spending an additional year in oak at which point the wine is bottled and spends another two years aging comfortably in the bottle in Flam’s cellar before release. Given the excellence of the Cabernet Sauvignon above and the selection process for this wine, I expected something special (even taking into consideration the fact that there was nearly two years of bottle aging ahead) and wasn’t disappointed. Reflective of the Flam’s winemaking philosophy, the wine is loaded with rich and extracted flavors while retaining elegance and poise, coupled with power and with what appears at this early stage to be substantial aging ability. Besides the obvious youth of the wine and its obvious elegance, it is a bigger and more powerful wine than the Cabernet Sauvignon and should be spectacular when released (and for quite some time thereafter). The nose was pretty closed at this point but slowly opened to reveal crushed red and black berries, rich cassis, black plums, blackberries and some blueberries, all in nice harmony with slightly spicy oak, roasted herbs, tobacco and a pleasing hint of fine dark chocolate. The full-bodied palate was rich, deep and satisfying with layers of flavors, spices, mineral and velvety yet powerful tannins; seemingly changing every minute the wine spent in my glass. A long and lingering finish with more fruit, dark chocolate, a hint of mint and cedar rounded out a wine that may contest for Israel’s top five when all is said and done. Time will tell. Start saving up and making room in your cellar for this wine’s anticipated release in mid-2014 at an ~240 NIS release price (only 5,000 bottles were made). The wine truly lives up to Yisrael’s moniker for it “the Prime of the Premium” (which, as evidenced by the title of this newsletter, I found to be highly appropriate not only for the wine but for the entire winery)!

No Andrew, most definitely Noiret is NOT Norton but a more recently developed French-American hybrid variety bred and released by Cornell University. See this link for info: http://iv.ucdavis.edu/files/24461.pdf

Norton has been around longer and already has achieved a "cult" following in some parts of the US. An old friend and very fine winemaker, Owen Smith, who worked a few years as Associate Winemaker under Victor Schoenfeld at Ramat Hagolan (Owen is not Jewish, but speaks Hebrew a good bit better than I!) worked at Horton in Virginia for a few years and was responsible for some awesome "Horton's Snortin' Norton"....

Owen swears by the grape, at least for certain East coast US appellations...

But it ain't Noiret.

No one, that I know of, has tasted the wine yet. It will be released at the end of the month, a red grape wine called Noiret and a dry white Riesling.

To be clear, I was responding to the above post, about 2 years late....

Tasted the Twin Suns Cab on Simchas Torah. Very interested floral notes, both on the nose and the palate. Ultimately, however, I found the wine to be thin and relatively dull. One caveat is that the situation was not conducive to decanting, so I will let it breathe more with my second bottle.
